Sams Lesson 3/10/13 Week 4 (Risk assessment)

What is a Risk Assessment?

A risk assessment is a checklist of all the possible hazards. This involves:

Alcohol, drugs, animals, insects, audiences, camera cables, confined spaces, derelict buildings, dangerous structures, electricity/gas, fatigue, flammable materials, hazardous substances, extreme weathers, strobe effects, machinery, night operation, noise, non standard manual handling, public/crowds, radiation, scaffold, smoking on set, special effects/explosives, special needs (elderly, disabled, inexperienced), specialised rescue/ first aid, stunts, dangerous activities, tall scenery, vehicles/ speed, proximity to water, weapons, working at heights, working over seas.

The purpose of a risk assessment to insure that your crew, cast and location is a safe environment. Once you have assessed the area, a contingency plan should be completed. This assures that if something was to go wrong you still have another plan to continue filming.

In an high budget film, a health and safety officer will be responsible for the crew and cast. But in my short film i will be responsible for my crew and cast as i will be the director.
